Here are some tequila brands that we often use in our summer cocktail recipes:

  • Patrón Silver: This premium Blanco boasts a smooth, slightly citrusy taste. Use it in classic Margaritas and Tequila Sunrises.
  • Casamigos Blanco: George Clooney co-founded this brand, known for its crisp, clean flavor. It shines in Palomas or fresh fruit-infused punches.

Summer tequila pitcher drinks

When considering cocktails for pitchers, choose those that are easy to batch, don’t require individual preparation, and remain consistent in flavor as they sit.

Tequila punches naturally suit batching and group servings, so they’re perfect for pitchers. They mix tequila with various fruit juices, sodas, and other ingredients to create a refreshing and tasty drink ideal for summer parties or gatherings. Some popular tequila punch variations we like to make include:

  1. Tequila Sangria Punch: Classic sangria meets tequila in this drink. Mix the spirit, red wine, orange juice, lemon juice, lime juice, and fruits like oranges, lemons, limes, and berries. Sometimes, people add soda or ginger ale for some bubbles.
  2. Mexican Bulldog Punch: Think of it as a big Coronarita. Mix tequila, limeade or lime juice, beer (usually light or Mexican), and a hint of triple sec or Cointreau.
  3. Tequila Fruit Punch: Mix tequila and fruit juices like pineapple, orange, and cranberry. Add fresh fruits and a bit of soda for more taste and fizz.
  4. Spicy Tequila Punch: This one’s for the brave! Mix tequila, pineapple, lime, and a little agave nectar and jalapeño slices. It’s a sweet and spicy treat.
  5. Sunset Tequila Punch: This punch stands out with its color. Make it with tequila, orange juice, grenadine, and club soda.
  6. Agave Lime Punch: Keep things light with tequila, fresh lime juice, agave nectar, and club soda. Add some mint leaves if you want a fresh smell.

Tequila Mixers (Ready-to-Drink)

Tequila mixers, known as “ready-to-drink” (RTD) beverages, mix tequila with different flavors and mixers in one pre-made drink. These drinks make it easy because you don’t have to mix your cocktails. Here’s more about them:

Jose Cuervo makes a popular range called Authentic Margaritas, which includes tasty flavors like classic lime and strawberry lime. They also have the Golden Margarita that adds a touch of Grand Marnier. Cutwater Spirits crafts ready-to-drink cocktails like the Tequila Margarita and Tequila Paloma, both known for their refreshing taste.

1800 Tequila offers a line named The Ultimate Margarita, made with real blue agave tequila, and it comes in flavors like peach and classic lime. Cayman Jack creates premium cocktails, and their Cayman Jack Margarita and Cayman Jack Paloma stand out because they use real lime juice and blue agave nectar. Lastly, Rancho La Gloria makes Margarita mixers from blue agave wine, giving a unique Margarita experience.

These brands make it easy for us and anyone to enjoy tequila-based drinks without the fuss of mixing.

Bring the fiesta to your backyard with this easy-to-follow Tommy's Margarita recipe, where Tequila, lime, and agave nectar meet to create the ultimate refresher!
Prep time: 1 minute
Mixing time: 1 minute
Servings: 1
Calories: 182

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Tequila Reposado or Silver
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • ½ oz agave nectar
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wheel or wedge - for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Strainer
  • Old Fashioned Glass

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill your Old Fashioned glass with ice cubes to chill.
  • Combine Ingredients: In the cocktail shaker, combine ½ oz agave nectar, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 2 oz Tequila Reposado or Silver.
  • Add Ice: Fill the shaker with ice cubes and put the lid on tightly.
  • Shake: Shake the mixture vigorously until the exterior of the shaker feels cold.
  • Replace Ice: Replace the ice from your Old Fashioned glass with fresh ice.
  • Strain: Strain the shaken mixture into your glass.
  • Garnish: Add a lime wheel or wedge on the rim of the glass for garnish.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Tequila: I sometimes use mezcal for a smokier flavor profile if I run out of Tequila. It's different but equally delicious. For those avoiding alcohol, a non-alcoholic tequila alternative can work, too, although it will lack the complexity of traditional Tequila.
  • Agave Nectar: When I don't have agave nectar, honey is a good substitute. It adds a different kind of sweetness and body to the drink. Remember, it's a bit sweeter than agave, so you should use less.

Making a Pitcher of Tommy's Margarita:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher serving 8 people, you'll need 16 oz of Tequila, 8 oz of lime juice, and 4 oz of agave nectar.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine all the ingredients. Stir thoroughly until the agave nectar is fully dissolved.
  • Serve: Serve over ice in individual Old Fashioned glasses, garnished with a lime wheel or wedge, and enjoy right away.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Tequila Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic tequila substitute available in the market, or if you're feeling creative, a dash of apple cider vinegar mixed with water can mimic the bite of alcohol.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use this non-alcoholic substitute and follow the original steps for a refreshing drink everyone can enjoy.

Making it Vegan:

  • Agave Nectar: Luckily, Tommy's Margarita is already vegan! Agave nectar is a plant-based sweetener, making this drink suitable for vegans. Be careful when choosing a substitute for agave nectar; honey, for instance, is not vegan. Opt for maple syrup or simple syrup as vegan-friendly alternatives.
