Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh mango cubes
  • oz Tequila
  • ¾ oz Triple Sec
  • ¾ oz fresh lime juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Salt or Tajin, for rimming, optional

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Margarita Glass
  • Measuring Jigger

Instructions

  • Prep Glass (optional): Run a lime wedge around the rim of your margarita glass, then dip in salt or Tajin (for a spicy twist).
  • Add Mango: Toss 1 cup fresh mango cubes into your blender.
  • Add Lime Juice: Squeeze in ¾ oz fresh lime juice.
  • Add Triple Sec: Measure and pour ¾ oz Triple Sec into the blender.
  • Add Tequila: Pour 1½ oz Tequila into the blender.
  • Add Ice: Finally, add 1-2 scoops of crushed ice to the blender
  • Blend: Blend on high speed for about 10 seconds, until all the ingredients are well mixed. The drink must be smooth and slushy.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into your prepped margarita glass and serve immediately.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Tequila: If you're out of Tequila, use vodka or white rum as a substitute. It won't have the same flavor profile but will still make a tasty drink.
  • Triple Sec:  If you don't have Triple Sec, other orange liqueurs like Grand Marnier, Cointreau or curaçao will work fine. Agave syrup can also be a good option if you’re looking for a drink with a lower alcohol content. Last but not least, mango liqueur can also be a great option!
  • Fresh Lime Juice: Bottled lime juice will work in a pinch if fresh limes aren't available. Just be aware that it may alter the taste slightly. You can also make this drink using lemon juice, preferably freshly squeezed.
  • Mango: If fresh mango isn't available, frozen mango works just as well. Mango juice or purée can be used as well, but you may have to adjust the quantity of Triple Sec to make up for the added sugar in the juice (if any). For a different twist, you could also experiment with other fruits like pineapple or peach.

Making a Pitcher of Mango Margarita:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 12 oz of Tequila, 6 oz of triple sec, 6 oz of lime juice, and 8 cups of mango cubes.
  • Blend: In a large blender, combine all the ingredients. Add a few scoops of crushed ice (approx. 4 cups, there must be roughly the same quantity of ice and liquid). Blend on high speed for about 15 seconds or until smooth.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into individual margarita rimmed with salt or Tajin glasses, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Tequila Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic tequila substitute. Otherwise, you can use fresh orange juice as a substitute.
  • Triple Sec Substitute: Opt for an orange extract mixed with a bit of simple syrup to mimic the sweet citrus flavor of Triple Sec. Agave syrup can do the trick as well, as well as mango syrup if you have any!
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

This Mango Margarita recipe is already vegan-friendly. Just ensure that any sugar used in your simple syrup or store-bought alternatives is vegan (some sugars are processed using bone char).

What is a Mango Margarita?

A Mango Margarita is a tequila-based cocktail made of fresh mangoes, lime juice, triple sec, and Tequila. It’s relatively easy to make if you have a blender to puree the mangoes and mix all the ingredients. This drink is a fruity variant of the classic Margarita, swapping out the traditional lime flavor for sweet, tropical mango.

What is a Mango Margarita made of – The ingredients

For a delicious Mango Margarita, use these ingredients:

  • Mangoes: These tropical fruits provide the main flavor profile for the Margarita. They add a sweet, tangy taste and a smooth texture.
  • Tequila: This is the primary alcoholic component of the Margarita. It gives the drink its characteristic kick and depth of flavor.
  • Triple Sec: This orange-flavored liqueur adds complexity to the drink’s flavor profile, balancing out the sweetness of the mangoes with a hint of citrus.
  • Lime Juice: Freshly squeezed lime juice adds a tart contrast to the sweetness of the mangoes, enhancing their flavor and adding a refreshing element to the drink.
  • Crushed Ice: Used in blending and serving, ice chills the Margarita, making it more refreshing. It also helps dilute the intense flavors slightly, creating a well-balanced drink.
  • Salt or Tajin: Often used to rim the glass, salt enhances all other flavors in the Margarita, providing a savory contrast to its sweetness. Tajin can be used as well to give a spicy kick to your cocktail.
