  • 4 oz tonic water , to fill
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon wedge or peel, for garnish, optional

  • Prep Glass: Fill your highball glass with ice cubes.
  • Add Vermouth: Pour 2 oz Vermouth of your choice over the ice.
  • Add Tonic Water: Add more ice cubes if necessary (the more, the better) and fill the glass with approx. 4 oz tonic water (adjust to taste and to the size of the glass).
  • Stir Gently: Use a bar spoon to stir the ingredients gently.
  • Garnish: Garnish with a lemon peel or wedge and serve immediately.

Substitutes:

  • Vermouth: You can make this drink with just any kind and brand of vermouth you like. Whether it is sweet or dry, Italian, French or British: feel free to experiment!
  • Lemon/Lime Wedge: An orange slice or peel also works excellent as a garnish and adds a hint of citrus sweetness if you're out of lemons.
