  • Ice cubes
  • Mint leaf, for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Strainer & Fine-strainer
  • Martini Glass

Instructions

  • Chill Glass: Stir some ice into the Martini Glass and set it aside
  • Add Bitters: Add 2 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters into the shaker.
  • Add Lemon Juice: Add ¾ oz fresh lemon juice to the mix.
  • Add Crème de Menthe: Measure and pour 1 bar spoon Crème de Menthe into the shaker.
  • Add Gin: Pour 1½ oz Gin into the shaker.
  • Prep Shaker: Fill your cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
  • Shake Well: Shake the mixture vigorously for about 15 seconds.
  • Strain and Serve: Fine strain the mixture into the chilled martini glass.
  • Garnish: Place a mint leaf on top for garnish.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Gin: If you don't have Gin, try using vodka for a cleaner taste. I've also used white rum in a pinch, which adds a different but pleasant flavor profile.
  • Crème de Menthe: If you're out of crème de menthe, use a mint syrup as an alternative.
  • Lemon Juice: Lime juice can be a good substitute if you prefer a slightly different citrus note.
  • Angostura Bitters: If you don't have Angostura bitters, try using another aromatic or orange bitters for a twist.

Making a Pitcher of Fallen Angel Cocktail:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 12 oz of Gin, 8 barspoons of crème de menthe, 6 oz of lemon juice, and 16 dashes of Angostura bitters.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the gin, crème de menthe, lemon juice, and Angostura bitters with ice. Stir well.
  • Serve: Strain the mixture into chilled martini glasses, garnish with mint leaves, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Gin Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic gin substitute; these are available and reasonably mimic Gin's botanicals.
  • Crème de Menthe Substitute: You can opt for mint syrup or make your own by infusing simple syrup with fresh mint leaves.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

The standard recipe is vegan-friendly since it contains no animal products. If you're strict about it, just ensure that your crème de menthe and bitters are certified vegan.
