Substitutes:
- Gin: If you don't have Gin, try using vodka for a cleaner taste. I've also used white rum in a pinch, which adds a different but pleasant flavor profile.
- Crème de Menthe: If you're out of crème de menthe, use a mint syrup as an alternative.
- Lemon Juice: Lime juice can be a good substitute if you prefer a slightly different citrus note.
- Angostura Bitters: If you don't have Angostura bitters, try using another aromatic or orange bitters for a twist.
Making a Pitcher of Fallen Angel Cocktail:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 12 oz of Gin, 8 barspoons of crème de menthe, 6 oz of lemon juice, and 16 dashes of Angostura bitters.
- Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the gin, crème de menthe, lemon juice, and Angostura bitters with ice. Stir well.
- Serve: Strain the mixture into chilled martini glasses, garnish with mint leaves, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Gin Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic gin substitute; these are available and reasonably mimic Gin's botanicals.
- Crème de Menthe Substitute: You can opt for mint syrup or make your own by infusing simple syrup with fresh mint leaves.
- Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
The standard recipe is vegan-friendly since it contains no animal products. If you're strict about it, just ensure that your crème de menthe and bitters are certified vegan.
