Ingredients

  • 2 oz Campari
  • 1 oz Crème de Cassis
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime twist or wheel, for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Martini or Coupe Glass
  • Shaker
  • Cocktail Strainer
  • Fine strainer
  • Measuring Jigger

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill a Martini or Coupe glass with ice. Give it a quick stir and set it aside.
  • Add Lime Juice: Pour 1 oz fresh lime juice into the shaker.
  • Add Crème de Cassis: Add 1 oz Crème de Cassis.
  • Add Campari: Measure and pour 2 oz Campari into the shaker as well.
  • Shake Well: Fill the shaker with ice, close it, and give it a good shake (10-15 seconds).
  • Strain: Take the Martini or coupe glass and discard the ice inside. Then, using both the cocktail strainer and the fine strainer, strain the shaken drink into the ice-filled glass.
  • Garnish: Garnish with a lime twist or wheel and serve immediately.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Campari: You can use any brand of red bitter aperitivo to make this cocktail (Select Aperitivo, Martini Bitter, or Strucchi Red Bitter are good options, for example).
  • Crème de Cassis: If you prefer a different berry profile, you can substitute blackberry liqueur or even raspberry liqueur.
  • Lime Juice: For a slightly different citrus kick, fresh lemon juice can be used in place of lime juice. Bottled lime juice will do in a pinch, but fresh is always best.

Making a Pitcher of Teresa Cocktail:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of Campari, 8 oz of Crème de Cassis, and 8 oz of lime juice.
  • Mix: Combine the Campari, Crème de Cassis, and lime juice in a large pitcher. Add ice and stir well.
  • Serve: Strain to remove the ice, serve immediately into chilled Martini or coupe glasses, and garnish each glass with a lime wheel. If you have some leftovers, be sure to keep it in the fridge (make sure no ice cubes are left inside) in an airtight container

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Campari Substitute: Opt for a non-alcoholic aperitif or for bitter soft drinks such as Crodino (prefer the red one) or San Bitter. To give it an additional twist, you can also make a simple syrup infused with orange and grapefruit peels; a drop of this syrup will give your drink an extra touch of both fruitiness and bitterness.
  • Crème de Cassis Substitute: To mimic the sweetness and flavor, opt for blackcurrant syrup.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

The Teresa Cocktail is naturally vegan; just ensure that any substitutes you may be using are also vegan-friendly (for example, some simple syrups may contain honey, so opt for one made with sugar instead).
