Notes
Substitutes:
- Aguardiente: If you don't have Aguardiente, I've found that white rum works well as a substitute, giving a similar but slightly different flavor profile.
- Tamarind Paste: In case you can't find tamarind paste, you can use tamarind concentrate or even tamarind juice for a lighter version.
- Simple Syrup: Honey syrup (honey mixed with water) can replace simple syrup if you prefer a richer sweetness.
- Lime Juice: Lemon juice can be used for a slightly different citrus kick instead of lime juice.
Making a Pitcher of Tamarind and Aguardiente Cocktail:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of Aguardiente, 8 oz of tamarind paste, 4 oz of simple syrup, and 8 oz of lime juice.
- Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the Aguardiente, tamarind paste, simple syrup, and lime juice. Stir well.
- Serve: Pour the mixture into individual ice-filled old fashioned glasses, garnish with a lime wedge or slice, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Aguardiente Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic spirit that mimics the flavor of Aguardiente; these are available and do a good job replicating the taste.
- Proceed As Usual: Use this non-alcoholic substitute instead of Aguardiente, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
- Simple Syrup Substitute: Ensure your simple syrup is vegan by using organic sugar or making your own at home with vegan sugar.
- Proceed As Usual: Follow the original steps using vegan-friendly ingredients to enjoy a vegan Tamarind and Aguardiente Cocktail.
