Ingredients

  • oz Gin
  • 1 oz grapefruit juice
  • ½ oz sweet Vermouth
  • Ice cubes
  • Grapefruit zest, for garnish

Equipment

  • Martini Glass
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Strainer & Fine-strainer

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill your Martini glass with ice cubes.
  • Add Grapefruit Juice: Measure and pour 1 oz grapefruit juice into the shaker.
  • Add Vermouth: Add ½ oz sweet Vermouth to the mix.
  • Add Gin: Pour 1½ oz Gin.
  • Prep Shaker: Fill your shaker with ice.
  • Shake: Shaker vigorously for about 15 seconds.
  • Strain: Fine strain into your chilled martini glass.
  • Garnish: Use a grapefruit peel for garnish.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Gin: If you don't have Gin, try using vodka for a cleaner taste. I've also used tequila for a more robust flavor profile.
  • Grapefruit Juice: Orange juice can work in a pinch, though it will be sweeter and less tart.
  • Sweet Vermouth: Dry vermouth can be used if you add a small splash of simple syrup to balance the flavors.

Making a Pitcher of Palm Beach Cocktail:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 12 oz of Gin, 8 oz of grapefruit juice, and 4 oz of sweet vermouth.
  • Mix: Combine the Gin, grapefruit juice, and sweet vermouth in a large pitcher with ice and stir well.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into chilled coupe glasses, garnish with a grapefruit zest,  and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Gin Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic gin substitute; these are available and reasonably mimic Gin's botanicals.
  • Vermouth Substitute: Opt for a non-alcoholic vermouth or mix grape juice with a dash of apple cider vinegar for complexity.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
