Notes
Substitutes:
- Campari: If you prefer a less bitter profile, I sometimes use Aperol instead of Campari. It offers a lighter, sweeter taste while maintaining that citrus essence.
- Green Chartreuse: Yellow Chartreuse can be a milder alternative if you find Green Chartreuse too intense, though it will alter the flavor slightly.
- Lime Juice: In a pinch, lemon juice can work as a substitute but will change the drink's character to be more tart.
Making a Pitcher of Love and Murder:
- Scale: To serve 8, multiply all ingredients by 8—8 oz each of Campari and Green Chartreuse, 6 oz lime juice, and 4 oz simple syrup.
- Mix: Combine all ingredients in a large ice-filled pitcher and stir well.
- Serve: Strain into chilled coupe glasses, garnish with lime twists, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Campari Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic aperitif or make an orange peel-infused simple syrup with a touch of grapefruit juice for bitterness.
- Green Chartreuse Substitute: Opt for herbal tea or a non-alcoholic herbal spirit to mimic the complex flavors.
- Proceed As Usual: Replace alcoholic ingredients with these substitutes and follow the original steps for a non-alcoholic version.
