Ingredients

  • oz Tequila
  • ½ oz Midori
  • ¾ oz Suze
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime twist or green maraschino cherry, for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Coupe Glass
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Mixing Glass
  • Stirrer or Bar Spoon

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill your coupe glass with ice cubes, stir and set it aside.
  • Add Midori: Measure and pour ½ oz Midori into the mixing glass.
  • Add Suze: Add ¾ oz Suze to the mix.
  • Add Tequila: Pour 1½ oz Tequila into the glass.
  • Add Ice: Fill your mixing glass with ice cubes.
  • Stir: Use a bar spoon to stir the ingredients until well-mixed and chilled.
  • Strain: Strain your drink into the chilled coupe glass.
  • Garnish: Garnish with a mile zest or a green maraschino cherry.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Tequila: If you don't have Tequila, try using white rum for a different but enjoyable flavor. I've also used vodka for a more neutral taste.
  • Midori: You can substitute Midori with another melon liqueur if needed, though it might alter the sweetness slightly.
  • Suze: If Suze is unavailable, try using an herbal liqueur like Yellow Chartreuse or Bénédectine.

Making a Pitcher of Greenhorn:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 12 oz of Tequila, 8 oz of Midori, and 6 oz of Suze.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the Tequila, Midori, and Suze with ice. Stir well.
  • Serve: Strain the mixture into individual chilled coupe glasses, garnish with a lime twist or a green maraschino cherry, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Tequila Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic tequila alternative; these are available and mimic the agave flavor quite well.
  • Midori Substitute: Opt for a melon-flavored syrup or juice to maintain the sweet melon essence without alcohol.
  • Suze Substitute: Create a simple syrup infused with gentian root for a touch of bitterness.
