Notes
Substitutes:
- London Dry Gin: If you don't have London dry gin, try using a different type of gin, like Plymouth gin, for a slightly different I've also used vodka in a pinch; it changes the character but works well.
- Campari: If Campari is too bitter, Aperol makes a great substitute with its lighter, sweeter flavor.
- Dry Vermouth: You can use sweet vermouth instead, but it will make the cocktail sweeter.
- Orange Liqueur: If you don't have any orange liqueur try the drink with a dash of maraschino, keep in mind it will change the drink profile.
Making a Pitcher of Gloria Cocktail:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 8 oz of London dry gin, 8 oz of Campari, 8 oz of dry vermouth, and 4 oz of orange liqueur.
- Mix: Combine the gin, Campari, dry vermouth, and orange liqueur in a large pitcher with ice. Stir well.
- Serve: Strain the mixture into ice-filled Old Fashioned glasses, garnish with lemon twists, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Gin Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic gin substitute; these are available and reasonably mimic gin's botanicals.
- Campari Substitute: Opt for a non-alcoholic aperitif or make a simple syrup infused with orange peel, grapefruit juice, and a touch of bitterness from gentian roots.
- Vermouth Substitute: Use non-alcoholic white wine with a splash of apple cider vinegar to mimic the dryness of vermouth.
- Orange liqueur: Use a simple syrup infused with orange peel.
- Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
