  • Stir Gently: Use a bar spoon to stir the ingredients gently.
  • Garnish: Garnish with either fresh cherries or skewered maraschino cherries and serve immediately.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Red Wine: Although the traditional recipe calls for Shiraz red wine, you can use any kind of red wine of your liking to prepare this cocktail.
  • Grand Marnier: You can use a Triple Sec such as Cointreau if you don’t have Grand Marnier on hand. Dry Curaçao will also work in a pinch.
  • Cola: Any brand will do or type will do. Depending on your preference, you can also use diet or zero calorie cola; it should work really well too.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Red Wine Substitute: Use non-alcoholic red wine; these are available and mimic the flavor quite well.
  • Grand Marnier Substitute: You can use orange peel syrup as a substitute. To make your own syrup, mix together 1 part white sugar and white part water over low heat. Stir well to dissolve the sugar, remove from the heat and add orange peels to the syrup. Let the mixture cool down to temperature, transfer to an airtight container and let it infuse in the fridge for at least one day. For a stronger flavor, you may add a drop of bitter orange essence to the mix. When ready to use, strain to remove the peels and store in the fridge after use.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

The Caravan cocktail is naturally vegan as it doesn't contain any animal products. Just make sure that the wine that you are using is vegan-friendly, as some producers may use animal products in their production process.
