  • 4 oz ginger ale
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedge, for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Highball Glass
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Stirrer or Bar Spoon

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill your Highball glass with ice cubes.
  • Add Rye Whiskey: Pour 2 oz Rye Whiskey over the ice.
  • Add Ginger Ale: Top up the glass with approx. 4 oz ginger ale.
  • Stir Gently: Use a bar spoon to stir the ingredients gently.
  • Garnish: Squeeze and drop a lime wedge into the glass for garnish.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Rye Whiskey: You can use bourbon for a sweeter flavor if you don't have rye whiskey. I've also tried using Canadian whisky, which offers a smoother taste.
  • Ginger Ale: If you prefer a spicier kick, substitute ginger beer for ginger ale. It adds more depth and heat to the drink.
  • Lime Wedge: A lemon wedge works just as well if you're out of limes. It gives a slightly different citrus note but still complements the drink nicely.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Rye Whiskey Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic whiskey alternative; these are available and do a decent job mimicking the flavor profile of rye whiskey.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use this non-alcoholic substitute instead of rye whiskey, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

  • Check Ingredients: Ensure that your ginger ale and non-alcoholic substitutes are vegan-friendly. Some brands may use animal-derived ingredients in their processing.
  • Proceed As Usual: Once you confirm your ingredients are vegan, follow the original steps to make your vegan Rye and Ginger cocktail.
