Notes
Substitutes:
- Light Rum: Dark Rum can also be used to make this cocktail. You can also use vodka as a substitute; this version of the drink is called a Seabreeze and is equally delicious. You can also use spiced or flavored rum (such as coconut rum) for a more tropical twist on this cocktail).
- Cranberry Juice: Pomegranate juice is a good alternative to switch up the flavor profile. It's slightly sweeter but still brings that tartness.
Making a Pitcher of Nantucket Cocktail:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of light rum, 28 oz of cranberry juice, and 12 oz of grapefruit juice.
- Mix: Combine all the ingredients in a large pitcher and stir well.
- Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled highball glasses, garnish each glass with a lime wedge, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Light Rum Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic light rum substitute; these are available and do a good job mimicking rum’s flavor. You can also add a dash of freshly squeezed lime juice to your cocktail to give it an extra kick.
- Proceed As Usual: Use this non-alcoholic substitute instead of the regular light rum, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
Good News: the Nantucket Cocktail is naturally vegan! Just use a vegan-friendly rum brand (most are, but it's always good to check). What is a Nantucket Cocktail?
A Nantucket Cocktail is a long drink made of light rum, cranberry juice, and grapefruit juice. It’s easy to make because it only requires three ingredients and no complex techniques or tools. This refreshing drink is a twist on the Seabreeze cocktail, traditionally made with vodka instead of rum.
What is a Nantucket Cocktail made of – The ingredients

- Grapefruit Juice: Brings a tangy and slightly bitter note to the drink, adding complexity and depth to the overall taste.
