Ingredients

  • oz Light Beer - Korean if available
  • oz Chilled Soju - flavored of unflavored (to taste)

Equipment

  • Somaek Glasses or other kind of 8-10 oz glasses, preferably highball style
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Bar spoon

Instructions

  • Chill Glass (optional): Chill the glass by filling it with ice or by placing it into the freezer for 10-15 minutes.
  • Pour Soju: Pour the Soju into the glass. Some Somaek glasses have a line marking the level of soju for the perfect ratio. If you don’t have such glasses, use the 3:7 ratio rule: your glass should contain 3 parts soju to 7 seven parts beer. For an 8 oz glass, that would represent 2½ oz Chilled Soju.
  • Add Beer: Fill the glass with beer. For the “perfect” ratio, an 8 oz glass should contain roughly 3½ oz Light Beer.
  • Stir: Stir gently to combine and serve immediately.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Light Beer: You can use any light beer of your choice to make this cocktail. Just make sure it's chilled and ready to be served!
  • Soju: You can use any kind of soju you like to make a Somaek: whether it is plain or flavored soju, both will work great so just grab your favorite bottle and start mixing!

Making it Vegan:

The Somaek drink is naturally vegan as it doesn't contain any animal products. Most sojus, as distilled spirits, are certified vegan-friendly. In case of doubt, always check the brand's website or contact them directly to ensure their products are vegan.
Just make sure to choose a vegan-friendly beer: some producers use isinglass, a form of collagen obtained from the dried swim bladders of fish, during the filtration process. Cass, a Korean light beer, is a popular option for Somaek and is also vegan-friendly, so we strongly recommend trying this option if available!
