Notes

Substitutes:

  • Calvados: You can use any other apple brandy if you don't have Calvados. You can also try with Cognac, it won't be the same, but it will still deliver you a tasty drink.
  • Apple Juice: If you're out of apple juice, pear juice can work as a substitute. It has a similar sweetness and doesn't overpower the other flavors.
  • Champagne: Prosecco or Cava are good alternatives if you don't have champagne. They're both sparkling wines and will give you that fizziness you want.

Making a Pitcher of Serendipity Cocktail:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 6 oz of Calvados, 6 oz of apple juice, and 48-64 mint leaves.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the Calvados, mint leaves, and apple juice. Stir well.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled old fashioned glasses, top with champagne, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Calvados Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic apple cider; these are available and reasonably mimic Calvados's apple flavor.
  • Champagne Substitute: Opt for a non-alcoholic sparkling grape juice. It will give you the fizziness without the alcohol.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

  • Check Your Wine: Some wines use animal products in the filtering process. To make this cocktail vegan, ensure your champagne (or substitute) is vegan-friendly. Many resources are available. You find one that works for you.
