Add Fresh Lime Juice: Pour ½ oz fresh lime juice into the shaker.
Add Cranberry Juice: Add 1 ½ oz cranberry juice.
Add Southern Comfort: Measure and pour 1 ½ oz Southern Comfort into the shaker as well.
Shake Well: Fill the shaker with ice, close it, and give it a good shake (10-15 seconds).
Strain: Take the Coupe or Martini glass and discard the ice inside. Then, using both the cocktail strainer and the fine strainer, strain the shaken drink into the chilled glass.
Garnish: Garnish with a lime wedge or wheel and serve immediately.
Substitutes:
- Southern Comfort: If you don't have Southern Comfort, you can use bourbon with a splash of peach liqueur or apricot brandy for a similar flavor profile. You can also experiment with other whisk(e)y liqueurs such as Drambuir or Jack Daniel’s Honey for a different twist on this cocktail.
- Cranberry Juice: Pomegranate juice is an alternative if you're out of cranberry juice. It gives a slightly different but equally refreshing taste.
- Fresh Lime Juice: You can use bottled lime juice in a pinch, but the flavor will be less bright and fresh. Another option is to use fresh lemon juice for a slightly different citrus kick.
Making a Pitcher of Scarlett O'Hara Cocktail:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 12 oz of Southern Comfort, 12 oz of cranberry juice, and 4 oz of lime juice.
- Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the Southern Comfort, cranberry, and lime juice. Add ice and stir well.
- Serve: Strain to remove the ice, serve immediately into chilled Martini or coupe glasses, and garnish each drink with a lime wheel. If you have some leftovers, be sure to keep them in the fridge (make sure no ice cubes are left inside) in an airtight container.
Making it Vegan:
Southern Comfort is vegan-friendly, and so is the Scarlett O’Hara cocktail!
