Notes

Substitutes:

  • Gin: When I don't have gin on hand, vodka makes an acceptable substitute, though it lacks the distinct botanicals of gin. Some people also opt for a milder white rum.
  • Heavy Cream: I've found that half & half or even whole milk can work if you're out of heavy cream. The drink may be a tad less creamy, but it remains delicious.
  • Orange Flower Water: If unavailable, you can omit it, but it gives that special aromatic touch. Alternatively, a tiny pinch of finely grated orange zest can add a similar fragrance.

Making a Pitcher:

  • Scale: For 8 servings, multiply each ingredient by 8. For instance, you'd need 16 oz of gin, 8 oz of heavy cream, etc.
  • Mix: Combine all ingredients except the soda water in a large pitcher. Stir them well or shake the ingredients if you have a pitcher that can be sealed.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into highball glasses, top with soda water, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Gin Substitute: Non-alcoholic gins are now available, mimicking the botanicals of traditional gin.
  • Proceed As Usual: Swap the gin with its non-alcoholic counterpart and follow the standard recipe. Enjoy a delightful, non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

  • Egg White Substitute: Aquafaba, the liquid from a can of chickpeas, is a great vegan alternative. Use 1 oz (30 ml) of aquafaba instead of the egg white.
  • Heavy Cream Substitute: Various plant-based creams are available, like coconut cream or almond milk cream. They will change the flavor slightly but keep the creamy texture.
