Substitutes:
- Gin: If you don't have gin, try using vodka for a cleaner taste, though it will lack the botanical notes.
- Applejack: I've used brandy as a substitute for applejack; it works well but gives a slightly different flavor profile.
- Lemon Juice: Lime juice can be used instead of lemon juice in a pinch, though it will alter the taste slightly.
- Grenadine: You can make homemade Grenadine by boiling pomegranate juice with sugar until it thickens.
- Egg White: For those who prefer not to use raw egg whites, aquafaba (the liquid from canned chickpeas) works surprisingly well as a vegan alternative.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Gin Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic gin substitute; these are available and reasonably mimic gin's botanicals.
- Applejack Substitute: Opt for apple cider or apple juice to replace applejack.
- Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
- Egg White Substitute: Use aquafaba (the liquid from canned chickpeas) instead of egg white; it creates a similar frothy texture without using animal products.
- Proceed As Usual: Follow the original steps using aquafaba in place of egg white to make a vegan-friendly Cocktail.
