Strainer & Fine-strainer
Prep Glass: Fill your margarita glass with ice and give it a quick stir to chill it.
Combine Ingredients: In a cocktail shaker, pour in 1½ oz Tequila, ½ oz orange liqueur, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 1 oz passion fruit syrup.
Shake: Ice up your cocktail shaker and give the mixture a good shake until well combined and chilled.
Rim: If desired, rim your margarita glass with salt.
Pour: Fine strain the mixture into your chilled margarita glass.
Garnish: Add a lime wheel or passion fruit slice for garnish.
Substitutes:
- Tequila: If you're out of Tequila, use vodka as a substitute. It won't have the same flavor profile but will still make a tasty drink. For a smoky twist, try using mezcal instead of Tequila.
- Fresh Lime Juice: Bottled lime juice can work in a pinch if fresh limes aren't available. However, I always recommend fresh when possible for the best flavor.
- Orange Liqueur: If you don't have any orange liqueur you can use a few dashes of orange bitters or a splash of orange juice.
- Passion Fruit Syrup: If you can't find passion fruit syrup, you can make your own by reducing passion fruit juice with sugar on the stove. Alternatively, you could use another tropical-flavored syrup like mango or pineapple.
Making a Pitcher of Passion Fruit Margarita:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 12 oz of Tequila, 8 oz of fresh lime juice, 4 oz of orange liqueur and 8 oz of passion fruit syrup.
- Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the Tequila, lime juice, and passion fruit syrup. Add ice and stir well.
- Serve: Strain the mixture into chilled margarita glasses, garnish with a lime wheel or passion fruit slice, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Tequila Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic tequila substitute; several brands are available that mimic Tequila's flavor without the alcohol.
- Orange liqueur: Opt for an orange syrup or a few dashes of orange essence.
- Proceed As Usual: Use this non-alcoholic substitute instead of regular Tequila, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
This cocktail is already vegan-friendly as it doesn't contain any animal products. Just check the labels of your ingredients to ensure they're vegan. Some brands of liquor may use animal products in their processing methods.
