Cool off with this easy Ginger Snap Cocktail recipe! Mix Gin, ginger liqueur, triple sec, fresh lemon juice, Angostura bitters, and ginger ale for a zesty fall cocktail.
Prep time: 1 minute minute
Mixing time: 1 minute minute
- 1 oz Gin
- ½ oz Ginger Liqueur
- ½ oz Triple Sec
- ¾ oz fresh lemon juice
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 3 oz Ginger Ale - to top off
- Ice cubes
- Lemon slice or twist - for garnish, optional
Prep Glass: Fill a Collins glass with ice. Give it a quick stir and set it aside.
Add Bitters: Pour 2 dashes Angostura Bitters into the shaker.
Add Lemon Juice: Add ¾ oz fresh lemon juice.
Add Liqueurs: Add ½ oz Triple Sec and ½ oz Ginger Liqueur.
Add Gin: Measure and pour 1 oz Gin into the shaker as well.
Shake Well: Fill the shaker with ice, close it and give it a good shake (10-15 seconds).
Strain: Discard the ice in the Highball or Collins glass and refill it with fresh, new ice cubes. Then, use the cocktail strainer to strain the drink into the ice-filled glass.
Top-up with Ginger Ale: Top-up with approx. 3 oz Ginger Ale (adjust to taste and to the size of the glass).
Garnish & Serve: Place a lemon slice or twist into the glass for garnish and serve immediately.
Substitutes:
- Gin: If you don't have Gin, try using vodka for a cleaner taste. I've also used white rum for a different but enjoyable flavor profile.
- Ginger Liqueur: If ginger liqueur is unavailable, use ginger syrup or even fresh ginger juice mixed with a simple syrup.
- Triple Sec: Cointreau works well as a substitute for triple sec, offering a slightly richer orange flavor.
- Lemon Juice: Lime juice can be used if you prefer a slightly different citrus note.
Making a Pitcher of Ginger Snap Cocktail:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 dashes of Angostura Bitters, 8 oz of Gin, 4 oz of ginger liqueur, 4 oz of triple sec, and 6 oz of lemon juice.
- Mix: Combine the bitters, Gin, ginger liqueur, triple sec, and lemon juice in a large pitcher and stir well.
- Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled highball glasses, top off with ginger ale, garnish with a lemon slice or twist, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Gin Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic gin substitute; these are available and reasonably mimic Gin's botanicals.
- Ginger Liqueur Substitute: Opt for ginger fresh juice mixed with simple syrup.
- Triple Sec Substitute: Use an orange-flavored non-alcoholic syrup.
- Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
All the ingredients in this recipe are typically vegan-friendly, but always check labels to ensure no animal-derived products are used in any specific brand you choose.
