Substitutes:
- Rye Whiskey: Bourbon works well as a substitute if you don't have rye whiskey. It adds a slightly sweeter profile to the drink.
- Lemon Juice: Fresh lime juice can be used instead of lemon juice for a different citrus twist.
- Maple Syrup: Honey or agave syrup can replace maple syrup if you prefer or if that's what you have.
- Egg White: For those who prefer not to use raw egg whites, aquafaba (the liquid from canned chickpeas) works surprisingly well as a vegan alternative.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Whiskey Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic whiskey alternative; these are available and reasonably mimic whiskey's flavor profile.
- Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
- Egg White Substitute: Use aquafaba (the liquid from canned chickpeas) instead of egg white. It froths up nicely and provides a similar texture without using animal products.
- Proceed As Usual: Follow the original steps using aquafaba instead of egg white for a vegan-friendly version of this cocktail.
