Notes

Substitutes:

  • Jamaican Rum: If you don't have Jamaican rum, you can use any dark rum as a substitute. It won't have the same unique flavor but will still work in a pinch.
  • Swedish Punsch: This is a unique ingredient and hard to replace, but in an emergency, you could try using a mix of rum and simple syrup with a dash of lemon juice.
  • Citrus Juice: Fresh is best, but bottled citrus juices can work, too, if you're out.

Making a Pitcher of Doctor Cocktail:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 8oz of Jamaican rum, 12 oz of Swedish Punsch, 4 oz of lemon juice, and 4 oz of orange juice.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the rum, Swedish Punsch, lemon juice, and orange juice with ice. Stir well.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into chilled individual cocktail glasses and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Jamaican Rum Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic dark rum substitute; these are available and reasonably mimic rum's flavor.
  • Swedish Punsch Substitute: Opt for a non-alcoholic herbal tea with simple syrup and lemon juice.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

This cocktail is already vegan-friendly, as it doesn't contain any animal products.
