Equipment

  • Highball Glass
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Stirrer or Bar Spoon

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill your highball glass with ice cubes.
  • Add Blue Curaçao: Measure and pour 1 oz Blue Curaçao into the glass.
  • Add Vodka: Pour 1 oz Vodka over the ice.
  • Add Lemonade: Add 4 oz Lemonade to the mix.
  • Stir Gently: Use a bar spoon to stir the ingredients gently.
  • Garnish: Place a lemon slice or cherry into the glass for garnish.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Vodka: gin can be an excellent substitute for a more botanical flavor. For a non-alcoholic version, you can use a non-alcoholic vodka.
  • Blue Curaçao: If you don't have Blue Curaçao, try using blue raspberry syrup; it gives a similar color and a sweet flavor.
  • Lemonade: I mix fresh lemon juice with simple syrup when I don't have lemonade. It's new and delicious!

Making a Pitcher:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the vodka, Blue Curaçao, and lemonade. Stir well.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled highball glasses, garnish with a lemon slice or cherry, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Vodka Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic vodka substitute; they are available and mimic the taste of vodka well.
  • Blue Curaçao: Use a blue curacao syrup or just simple syrup, a splash of orange juice and a drop of blue food coloring.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use the non-alcoholic substitutes, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

  • Lemonade: Ensure the lemonade is made without honey or other animal byproducts. Opt for a brand that uses certified vegan sugar or another vegan sweetener, or create your own at home using a vegan sweetener.
  • Garnish: If using a cherry for garnish, ensure it's not colored with cochineal and doesn't contain any non-vegan additives. Opt for a brand that is known to be vegan, or use a lemon slice instead.
