  • Shaker
  • Strainer
  • Hurricane Glass
  • Measuring Jigger

  • Add Ingredients: Pour 1 oz sweet and sour mix, 3 oz pineapple juice, ½ oz Blue Curaçao, ¾ oz Vodka, and ¾ oz Light Rum into the shaker.
  • Prep Shaker: Fill your shaker with ice cubes.
  • Shake Well: Shake the ingredients vigorously until well-mixed.
  • Strain into Glass: Strain the mixture into the hurricane glass over fresh ice.
  • Garnish: Garnish with a pineapple slice and a maraschino cherry.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Light Rum: If I don't have light rum, I often use coconut rum for a tropical twist or spiced rum for a bit of spice.
  • Vodka: In a pinch, I've substituted vodka with gin, adding a botanical flavor.
  • Blue Curaçao: When blue curaçao is unavailable, I use triple sec with a drop of blue food coloring to maintain the color.

Making a Pitcher of Blue Hawaii Drink:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine all the ingredients and stir well.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled hurricane glasses, garnish, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Rum & Vodka Substitute: Use non-alcoholic rum and vodka substitutes available in the market.
  • Blue Curaçao: Use a blue curacao syrup or just simple syrup, a splash of orange juice and a drop of blue food coloring.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic Blue Hawaii Drink.

Making it Vegan:

  • Sweet and Sour Mix: Ensure the sweet and sour mix is vegan. Some mixes may contain animal products like honey. Opt for a homemade version using simple syrup and lemon juice, or find a vegan-certified product.
  • Garnish: Use a vegan maraschino cherry brand or omit it altogether, and stick to the pineapple slice for garnish.
