  • Crushed ice
  • Lime wheel or strawberry and sugar rim, for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Highball or Wine Glass

Instructions

  • Chill Glass: Ice up your wine glass to chill.
  • Add Strawberries: Toss 1 cup fresh strawberries into the blender.
  • Add Strawberry Syrup: Add 1 oz strawberry syrup.
  • Add Lime Juice: Measure and add 1 oz lime juice.
  • Add Rum: Pour 2 oz White Rum into the blender.
  • Add Ice: Add a scoop of crushed ice.
  • Blend: Blend the ingredients until smooth.
  • Prepare Glass: Moisten the rim of the glass with a lime wedge, and dip it into sugar.
  • Pour: Pour your blended mixture into your prepared and chilled glass.
  • Garnish: Place a strawberry or a lime wheel on the rim to garnish.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • White Rum: You can use gold rum for a richer flavor if you're out of white rum. I've also tried it with vodka, and it's still delicious, just different.
  • Lime Juice: Lemon juice is a decent substitute but slightly alters the taste.
  • Strawberry syrup: simple syrup will work just fine.

Making a Pitcher of Strawberry Daiquiri:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of white rum, 8 oz of lime juice, 8 oz of strawberry syrup, and 8 cups of strawberries.
  • Mix: In a large blender, combine all the ingredients and blend until smooth.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into crushed ice-filled highball or wine glasses, garnish, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • White Rum Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic rum substitute or coconut water for a tropical twist.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes and follow the original steps for a delightful non-alcoholic Strawberry Daiquiri.

Making it Vegan:

  • Syrup: Ensure your syrup is certified, as some sugars are processed using bone char.

Strawberry Daiquiri Mocktail

The virgin Strawberry Daiquiri offers all the fruity fun without the alcohol. Swap out the rum for coconut water or a non-alcoholic rum alternative. Fresh lime juice and simple syrup still play their roles, balancing the tart and sweet notes.

Strawberry Daiquiri with Vodka

Adding vodka to a Strawberry Daiquiri is a solid move if you want a different kick. Brands like Tito’s or Grey Goose offer a clean, neutral base that lets the strawberry and lime flavors shine. Just replace the rum with vodka and blend as usual.

Strawberry Daiquiri Mix – Ready to Drink

Pre-mixed Strawberry Daiquiris offers a quick and easy way to enjoy this classic cocktail. Most liquor stores offer options from well-known brands like Bacardi and Daily’s. Bacardi serves theirs in a can and Daily’s in a freeze-and-go pouch. My top pick? Bacardi, for its well-balanced flavor that doesn’t skimp on the strawberry or lime.

Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri

A Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri is very similar to a regular version. It is a blended cocktail that combines white rum, lime juice, simple syrup, and frozen strawberries. Using both Frozen fruit and ice gives it a slushy, icy texture and thats why its sometimes refered to as a Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri.

Strawberry Daiquiri Syrup

When it comes to the syrup, you’ve got options. Simple syrup is the standard, and it’s easy to make at home with equal parts sugar and water. If you want to buy, brands like Monin and Torani offer high-quality syrups that work well. You could even opt for Monin’s strawberry-flavored syrup to double down on the berry goodness. But for a classic, well-balanced Daiquiri, sticking with a quality simple syrup is your best bet.

Variations

More choices? We’re excited to present some of our favorite discoveries:

  • Hemingway Daiquiri: Features grapefruit juice and maraschino liqueur, adding a citrusy sharpness and cherry sweetness to the traditional rum and lime. I love how the grapefruit refreshes, making it perfect for warm days.
  • Banana Daiquiri: Incorporates banana liqueur for a tropical, sweet layer, complemented by the lime’s acidity and enriched with demerara syrup for depth. The creamy texture and natural sweetness of banana make this a favorite indulgence.
  • Nuclear Daiquiri: Combines absinthe with lime for a bold, herbaceous note against the tangy citrus, creating an explosive and memorable taste adventure.
  • King Cake Daiquiri: Uses homemade king cake simple syrup, infusing the drink with cinnamon and sweet flavors, reminiscent of the festive Mardi Gras pastry, and decorated with a colorful, sugary rim.
  • Frozen Peach Daiquiri: Blends ripe peaches with lime juice, light rum, and simple syrup for a frosty, smooth texture and sweet, mellow peach flavor, embodying the essence of summer in each sip.

History and Origin

The Strawberry Daiquiri has its roots in the classic Daiquiri, a cocktail that originated in Cuba. American engineer Jennings Cox is often credited with inventing the original Daiquiri in the late 19th century while in Cuba. He combined rum, lime juice, and sugar to create a refreshing drink. The cocktail quickly gained popularity, especially among American tourists and soldiers stationed in Cuba.

The Strawberry Daiquiri emerged as a fruity twist on this classic, likely gaining traction in the United States. The advent of the blender in the 20th century made incorporating fresh fruit and ice easier, transforming the simple Daiquiri into a range of frozen concoctions. Strawberries naturally found their way into this cocktail, giving birth to the Strawberry Daiquiri we know today. The drink became especially popular in the latter half of the 20th century, often associated with beach vacations and tropical settings.
