  • Strainer
  • Coupe Glass

Notes

Substitutes:

  • London Dry Gin: Any type of gin will work well for this drink, if you are out of any gin try vodka for a less botanical profile.
  • Dry Vermouth: Opt for a dry sherry or even with sweet vermouth for a sweeter taste.
  • Cointreau: Use any triple sec you have on hand or opt for Grand Marnier.
  • Absinthe: If you can't find any absinthe, opt for an anisette liqueur or Pastis for a similar profile.

Making a Pitcher of Joy Division Cocktail:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 12 oz of gin, 8 oz of dry vermouth, 8 oz of Cointreau, and 24 dashes of Absinthe.
  • Mix: Combine the gin, dry vermouth, Cointreau, and Absinthe in a large pitcher. Stir well with plenty of ice.
  • Serve: Strain the mixture into chilled coupe glasses and garnish each with a lemon twist.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Gin Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic gin substitute; these are available and mimic gin's botanicals quite well.
  • Dry Vermouth Substitute: For acidity, replace dry vermouth with non-alcoholic white wine or a mix of white grape juice and apple cider vinegar.
  • Cointreau Substitute: Use an orange-flavored syrup or non-alcoholic triple sec.
  • Absinthe Substitute: Opt for an anise-flavored or fennel seed-infused simple syrup to mimic Absinthe's unique flavor.
  • Proceed As Usual: Follow the original steps using these non-alcoholic substitutes to enjoy a zero-proof version.

Making it Vegan:

The Joy Division Cocktail is naturally vegan as it contains no animal products in its ingredients list. Ensure that your chosen gin, vermouth, Cointreau, and Absinthe brands do not use animal-derived fining agents or additives in their production process.
