Ingredients

  • oz Green Crème de Menthe
  • oz Irish Cream
  • oz Grand Marnier

Equipment

  • Shot Glass
  • Metal pourer
  • Bar spoon

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Chill your shot glass in the freezer for a few minutes.
  • Add Green Crème de Menthe: Fill your shot glass up to ⅓ with Green Crème de Menthe (approx. ⅓ oz Green Crème de Menthe).
  • Layer Irish Cream: Open the bottle of Irish Cream and place the metal pourer on top. Place the spoon inside the shot glass, back side on top, just touching the surface of the layer of Crème de Menthe. Slowly pour Irish cream over the back of the bar spoon to create a layer on top of the crème de menthe. This layer should be roughly equivalent to ⅓ of the glass too (approx. ⅓ oz Irish Cream).
  • Layer Grand Marnier: Clean the metal pourer, dry it and put in on the Grand Marnier bottle. Using the same technique, layer 1 part of Grand Marnier on top of the Irish cream. This layer should be roughly the same size as the other two and rise to the top of the glass (approx. ⅓ oz Grand Marnier).
  • Serve: You can serve immediately or wait a few minutes for the layers to settle and get clearer and more defined.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Green Crème de Menthe: Any kind of green-colored mint liqueur will work in this recipe. However, it is recommended to stick to Crème de Menthe (which is sweeter than regular mint liqueur) is possible as it will help create cleaner, more neat looking layers.
  • Irish Cream: Just as for the Crème de Menthe, any brand of Irish Cream liqueur (such as Bailey’s, just to name the most famous one), can be used to make this drink. For a different twist, you can also use other cream liquors (Disaronno Velvet, for example, works really well for this shot).
  • Grand Marnier: Triple sec such as Cointreau or dry, uncolored curaçao can replace Grand Marnier if needed. They both provide that orange flavor but might be slightly less complex. For more realism regarding the flag’s color, you can add a few drops of food coloring into the liqueur to make it more orange (optional).

Making it Vegan:

  • Irish Cream Substitute: Use a vegan-friendly liqueur made from plant-based cream. These are getting more and more available on the market: Bailey’s, for example, is now commercializing an almond-based version of their famous Irish cream liqueur. Feel free to try several brands in order to find your perfect match!
  • Proceed As Usual: Follow the original steps using this vegan substitute, and enjoy your vegan-friendly Irish Flag Shot!
