  • 2 oz White Rum
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • ½ oz Triple Sec
  • ½ oz Maraschino Liqueur
  • Ice cubes

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Strainer & Fine-strainer
  • Martini Glass

Instructions

  • Chill a martini glass.
  • Drop 1 dash of Angostura Bitters in a shaker.
  • Squeeze 1 oz lime juice and add it to the shaker.
  • Add ½ oz Maraschino Liqueur.
  • Measure and pour ½ oz Triple Sec.
  • Finish with 2 oz White Rum.
  • Fill the cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
  • Shake well until the outside of the shaker feels cold.
  • Fine strain the mixture into your chilled martini glass.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • White Rum: If you don't have white rum, you can use vodka for a less sweet flavor. I've also used tequila for a more robust profile.
  • Triple Sec: Grand Marnier is an excellent alternative to add a richer, more complex flavor.
  • Maraschino Liqueur: If you can't find maraschino liqueur, cherry brandy or another cherry-flavored liqueur will work in a pinch.

Making a Pitcher of Casablanca Drink:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 8 dashes of Angostura bitters, 16 oz of white rum, 8 oz of lime juice, 4 oz of triple sec, and 4 oz of maraschino liqueur.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the bitters, white rum, lime juice, triple sec, and maraschino liqueur with ice. Stir well.
  • Serve: Strain the mixture into individual chilled martini glasses and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • White Rum Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic rum substitute; these are available and do a good job mimicking the rum's flavor.
  • Triple Sec Substitute: Opt for a non-alcoholic orange liqueur or a simple syrup infused with orange peel.
  • Maraschino Liqueur Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic cherry syrup instead of the regular maraschino liqueur.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

This cocktail is already vegan-friendly as it doesn't contain any animal products. Just ensure that the specific brands of alcohol you're using are vegan, as some use animal products in their processing methods.

What is a Casablanca Drink?

A Casablanca Drink is a rum-based cocktail made of white rum, lime juice, triple sec, angostura bitters, and maraschino liqueur. It’s relatively easy to make as it only requires these ingredients mixed in the proper proportions. This drink isn’t a variant of any well-known cocktail but stands on its own for its unique blend of flavors – the sweetness from the maraschino liqueur perfectly balances out the tartness from lime juice while being complemented by smooth white rum.
