Blend Watermelon: Toss 1 cup fresh watermelon cubes into your blender and blend until smooth.
Add Lime Juice: Squeeze in the ¾ oz fresh lime juice.
Add Triple Sec: Measure and pour ¾ oz Triple Sec into the blender.
Add Tequila: Pour 1½ oz Tequila into the blender.
Add Ice: Finally, add 1-2 scoops of crushed ice to the blender.
Blend: Blend on high speed for a few seconds, until all the ingredients are well-mixed.
Prep Glass (optional): Run a lime wedge around the rim of your margarita glass, then dip in salt.
Serve: Pour the mixture into your prepped margarita glass, garnish with a slice of watermelon, and serve immediately.
Substitutes:
- Tequila: If you're out of Tequila, you can use vodka or white rum as a substitute. Both will change the flavor profile slightly but still make for a delicious cocktail.
- Triple Sec: If you don't have Triple Sec, other orange liqueurs like Grand Marnier or Cointreau will work fine. Agave syrup can also be a good option if you’re looking for a drink with a lower alcohol content. Last but not least, watermelon liqueur can also be a great option!
- Fresh Watermelon: Frozen chunks or juice can be used instead of fresh watermelon.
Making a Pitcher of Watermelon Margarita:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 8 cups of watermelon, 12 oz of Tequila, 6 oz of Triple Sec, and 6 oz of freshly squeezed lime juice.
- Blend: In a large blender, combine the watermelon, Tequila, Triple Sec, lime juice, and ice (more or less a scoop per serving, so 8 scoops). Blend on high speed for a few seconds, until smooth.
- Serve: Pour the mixture into individual salt-rimmed margarita glasses, garnish with a watermelon slice, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Tequila Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic tequila substitute available in most supermarkets or online. Otherwise, you can use fresh orange juice as a substitute.
- Triple Sec Substitute: Opt for an orange extract mixed with a bit of simple syrup to mimic the sweet citrus flavor of Triple Sec. Agave syrup can do the trick as well, as well as watermelon syrup if you have any!
- Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
This Watermelon Margarita recipe is vegan-friendly as it contains no animal products. Just make sure to check the labels of your alcohol substitutes when making a non-alcoholic version to ensure they're vegan, too.
