Notes

Substitutes:

  • Tequila: If you're out of Tequila, use mezcal for a smokier flavor profile. I've also tried this recipe with white rum, and it turned out surprisingly well.
  • Apricot Brandy: Peach schnapps or cherry brandy can be substituted if you don't have apricot brandy. They alter the flavor slightly but still result in a delicious cocktail.
  • Fresh Lime Juice: I've used bottled lime juice in a pinch, but fresh is always best. You could also try lemon juice for a different citrus twist.

Making a Pitcher of Toreador Cocktail:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of Tequila, 8 oz of apricot brandy, and 8 oz of fresh lime juice.
  • Mix: Combine the Tequila, apricot brandy, and lime juice in a large pitcher with ice cubes and stir well.
  • Serve: Strain the mixture into ice-filled coupe glasses, garnish with a lime wheel or twist, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Tequila Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic tequila substitute; several brands are available that mimic Tequila's flavor quite well.
  • Apricot Brandy Substitute: You can make a simple syrup infused with apricot flavor. Just simmer equal parts sugar and water with some dried apricots until the flavors meld together.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

This cocktail is already vegan-friendly as it doesn't contain any animal products. However, always check the labels of your alcohol, as some brands may use animal products in their processing methods.
