Substitutes:
- Tequila: You can use vodka or white rum if you don't have Tequila. Both will give you a different flavor profile but make for a refreshing drink. I've also used mezcal for a smoky twist.
- Club Soda: You can substitute club soda with tonic or lime/lemon soda. Tonic water adds bitterness, while lime/lemon soda delivers a citrus note.
Making a Pitcher of Tequila Soda:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of Tequila and 32 oz (approximately) of club soda.
- Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the tequila and club soda. Stir well.
- Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled highball glasses, garnish with a lime wedge, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Tequila Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic spirit like The Spirit of Tequila by Free Spirit. It has complex flavors that mimic the depth of Tequila without the alcohol.
- Proceed As Usual: Use this non-alcoholic substitute instead of regular Tequila, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
- Check Your Tequila: Most tequilas are vegan, but some brands use animal products in the refining process. Check the brand's website or contact them to make sure.
- Proceed As Usual: After confirming your Tequila is vegan-friendly, follow the original steps and enjoy your vegan cocktail.
