Make your spring exciting with this Tequila Caipirinha recipe! This cocktail, featuring Tequila, lime, sugar, and crushed ice, is just right for those chill spring evenings.
Prep time: 1 minute minute
Mixing time: 1 minute minute
- 2 oz Tequila
- ½ oz cane sugar syrup
- ½ Lime - cut into wedges
- Crushed Ice
Prep Glass: Place the lime wedges into your Old Fashioned glass.
Add Sugar and Muddle: Pour ½ oz cane sugar syrup. Using a muddler, crush the lime in order to release as much juice as possible.
Add Tequila: Add 2 oz Tequila into the glass.
Add Ice: Fill the glass three-quarters full with crushed ice.
Stir: Using a bar spoon or long stirrer, churn well to combine the ingredients.
Add Ice: Add a straw and top up with more crushed ice.
Serve: Enjoy as is, or garnish with an additional lime wedge if desired.
Substitutes:
- Tequila: If you don't have Tequila, you can use cachaça for a traditional caipirinha, rum for a Caipirissima or even vodka for a Caïpiroska. All of these alternatives will give you a different flavor profile but make a delicious cocktail.
- Lime: If limes are not available, lemons can be used instead. The taste will be slightly different but still refreshing and tangy.
- Cane Sugar Syrup: You can make your own sugar at home by dissolving 1 part cane sugar into 1 part water over low heat. If you prefer a less sweet drink or are watching your sugar intake, you can reduce the amount of sugar or use a sugar substitute like stevia or agave syrup.
- Crushed Ice: If you’re out of crushed ice, you can use ice cubes to make this cocktail. In this case, we advise you to muddle the lime in a shaker, add all the tequila and sugar and then shake vigorously with ice. Then, simply open the shaker and pour its content into a large rocks glass (ice cubes included).
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Tequila Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic tequila substitute; these are available in the market and do a good job mimicking Tequila's flavor. If you can’t find any, lemonade can be a good substitute as well (in that case, you may want to increase the quantity a bit). Fresh orange juice can also be used as a substitute or, if you’re feeling crafty, you can also try making your own substitute by mixing together water, a pinch of smoked salt, a splash of tonic and a bit of agave syrup (to taste).
- Proceed As Usual: Use this non-alcoholic substitute instead of regular Tequila, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version of this refreshing cocktail.
Making it Vegan:
This recipe is already vegan as it does not contain any animal products. However, if you're using a sugar substitute, ensure it's vegan-friendly. Some sugar substitutes are processed using bone char, which is not vegan. Opt for organic or raw sugar or a vegan-friendly substitute like stevia or agave nectar.
