Ingredients

  • 2 oz Gin
  • ½ oz sweet Vermouth
  • Maraschino cherry - for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Martini Glass
  • Stirring Glass
  • Bar spoon or long stirrer
  • Cocktail Strainer
  • Measuring Jigger

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill your Martini glass with ice. Set it aside.
  • Add Vermouth: Measure and pour ½ oz sweet Vermouth into the mixing glass.
  • Add Gin: Add 2 oz Gin into the mixing glass as well.
  • Add Ice and Stir: Fill the mixing glass with ice. Using a bar spoon or a long stirrer, stir well (for about 15-20 seconds). Give it a taste and stir a bit more if you feel like more dilution is necessary.
  • Strain: Take your Martini glass and discard the ice inside. Using the cocktail strainer, strain the mixture into the chilled glass.
  • Garnish: Garnish with a Maraschino cherry (either directly inside the drink or on a cocktail skewer) and serve immediately.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Gin: If you don't have Gin, vodka can be used as a substitute. It will give the drink a smoother, less botanical flavor.
  • Sweet Vermouth: Dry vermouth can be used instead of sweet vermouth if needed. However, it will make the drink less sweet. If you want, add a small splash of simple syrup or a teaspoon of sugar to balance this out.

Making a Pitcher of Sweet Martini:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of Gin and 8 oz of sweet vermouth.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the Gin and sweet vermouth with ice. Stir well.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into chilled martini glasses, garnish with a maraschino cherry, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Gin Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic gin substitute. There are several brands available that mimic the botanical flavor of Gin.
  • Sweet Vermouth Substitute: You can use a non-alcoholic sweet vermouth substitute or make a simple syrup infused with herbs and spices for a non-alcoholic version.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

  • Maraschino Cherry: Some maraschino cherries are processed with artificial colors and flavors, and some may even use animal products in their production. To ensure your drink is vegan, look for organic or natural maraschino cherries free from artificial colors and flavors. Alternatively, you can garnish with a fresh cherry or omit the garnish altogether.
