Enjoy the Stone Fence recipe to warm up! Combine whiskey and apple cider for a cozy cocktail that's ideal for fall.
Prep time: 1 minute minute
Mixing time: 1 minute minute
- 2 oz Rye Whiskey
- 4 oz apple cider
- Ice cubes
- Apple slice or cinnamon stick - for garnish, optional
Highball Glass
Measuring Jigger
Stirrer or Bar Spoon
Prep Glass: Fill your highball glass with ice cubes.
Add Whiskey: Pour 2 oz Rye Whiskey over the ice.
Add Apple Cider: Pour approximately 4 oz apple cider into the glass.
Stir Gently: Use a bar spoon to stir the ingredients gently.
Garnish: Place an apple slice or cinnamon stick into the glass for garnish.
Substitutes:
- Whiskey: If you don't have whiskey, try using bourbon for a sweeter flavor. I've also used rum in a pinch, which adds a different but pleasant twist.
- Apple Cider: In place of apple cider, I sometimes use apple juice with a splash of lemon juice to add some tartness. It works if you're out of cider.
Making a Pitcher of Stone Fence:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of rye whiskey and 32 oz of apple cider.
- Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the whiskey and apple cider. Stir well.
- Serve: Pour the mixture into individual ice-filled highball glasses, garnish with an apple slice or cinnamon stick, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Whiskey Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic whiskey alternative; these are available and mimic the flavor profile quite well.
- Proceed As Usual: Replace whiskey with the non-alcoholic substitute, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
