Ingredients
 

  • 2 oz Soju
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • ½ oz agave syrup
  • 1 slice of jalapeño
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wheel or jalapeño slice - for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Strainer
  • Margarita or Rocks Glass

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill your rocks or margarita glass with ice cubes.
  • Add Jalapeño: Drop 1 slice of jalapeño into the shaker.
  • Add Lime Juice: Measure and pour 1 oz lime juice into the shaker.
  • Add Agave Syrup: Add ½ oz agave syrup to the mix.
  • Add Soju: Pour 2 oz Soju into the cocktail shaker.
  • Add Ice: Fill your shaker with ice cubes.
  • Shake Well: Shake the mixture vigorously for about 15 seconds.
  • Strain and Serve: Strain the mixture into the rocks or margarita glass over fresh ice.
  • Garnish: Place a lime wheel or an additional jalapeño slice on top for garnish.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Soju: If you don't have Soju, you can use vodka or tequila as an alternative. I've tried both, and they work well but give a different character to the drink.
  • Lime Juice: Fresh lemon juice can be used if you're out of limes. It changes the flavor slightly but still keeps it refreshing.
  • Agave Syrup: Honey or simple syrup can replace agave syrup if needed. Remember that honey has a more robust flavor, so use it sparingly.
  • Jalapeño: If you want less heat, try using a milder pepper like a poblano or even a dash of hot sauce for controlled spiciness.

Making a Pitcher of Spicy Soju Margarita:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of Soju, 8 oz of lime juice, and 4 oz of agave syrup.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the Soju, lime juice, agave syrup, and several slices of jalapeño.
  • Stir Well: Stir the mixture thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are well combined.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into individual ice-filled rocks or margarita glasses, garnish with lime wheels or jalapeño slices, and serve immediately.
