Add Vodka: Measure and pour 1½ oz Vodka into the shaker as well.
Replace Ice: Replace with a generous amount of fresh ice cubes in the highball glass.
Shake Well: Fill the shaker with ice, close it, and give it a good shake (10-15 seconds).
Strain: Using the cocktail strainer, strain the mixture into the ice filled glass.
Top-up: Top-up with approx. 3 oz Sparkling Wine (adjust to the size of your glass).
Garnish: Drop a few fresh cranberries or a lime wheel into the glass as a garnish and serve immediately.
Substitutes:
- Vodka: If you don't have vodka, you can substitute gin or white rum. Both will give a different flavor profile but still work well with the cranberry and lime.
- Cranberry Juice: Pomegranate juice is an excellent alternative if you're out of cranberry juice. It has a similar tartness and color.
- Sparkling Wine: If you're not a fan of sparkling wine, you can use club soda for a non-alcoholic fizz or ginger ale for a sweeter option.
Making a Pitcher of Sparkling Cranberry Vodka Punch:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 12 oz of vodka, 16 oz of cranberry juice, 4 oz of lime juice, and 4 oz of simple syrup. Top with sparkling wine as needed.
- Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the vodka, cranberry juice, lime juice, and simple syrup with ice. Stir well.
- Serve: Pour the mixture into individual ice-filled highball glasses, top with sparkling wine, garnish with fresh cranberries and a lime slice, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Vodka Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic vodka substitute available in most supermarkets or online.
- Sparkling Wine Substitute: Opt for a non-alcoholic sparkling wine or club soda for the fizz.
- Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
This cocktail is already vegan-friendly. Just ensure that the sugar in your simple syrup is vegan (some sugars are processed using bone char). Also, check that your chosen sparkling wine is vegan, as some wines use animal products in the fining process.
