  • 2 oz Sloe Gin
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • ½ oz simple syrup
  • Club soda - to top
  • Lemon slice and cherry - for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Highball Glass
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Shaker
  • Strainer

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill your highball glass with ice cubes.
  • Shake Ingredients: In the shaker, combine ½ oz simple syrup, 1 oz lemon juice, and 2 oz Sloe Gin.
  • Shake: Ice up the shaker and shake well.
  • Strain: Strain the mixture into your highball glass.
  • Top with Soda: Fill the rest of the glass with club soda.
  • Garnish: Add a lemon slice and a cherry for garnish.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Sloe Gin: If you can't find sloe gin, use regular gin and add a splash of blackcurrant or blackberry liqueur for that fruity note. I've done this, and it's a great workaround.
  • Lemon Juice: Lime juice works if you're out of a lemon. It changes the flavor profile but still tastes great.
  • Simple Syrup: If you're out of simple syrup, you can dissolve sugar in hot water to make your own. I've also used honey for a different kind of sweetness.

Making a Pitcher:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of sloe gin, 8 oz of lemon juice, and 4 oz of simple syrup.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the sloe gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Stir well.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled highball glasses, top with club soda, garnish with a lemon slice or twist, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Sloe Gin Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic blackcurrant or blackberry syrup.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

  • Simple Syrup: Ensure your syrup doesn't contain honey or other animal-derived products. Stick to a sugar and water mixture.
  • Proceed As Usual: After confirming your vegan ingredients, follow the original steps to enjoy a vegan version.
