Ingredients

  • 1 cup Lager Beer - cold
  • 1 cup lemonade - sparkling or not, and cold
  • Lemon wedge - for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Pint Glass
  • Measuring Cup

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill your pint glass halfway with 1 cup Lager Beer.
  • Add Lemonade: Pour 1 cup lemonade into the glass until it's complete.
  • Stir Gently: Give it a gentle stir to mix the beer and Lemonade.
  • Garnish: Add a lemon slice to the rim of the glass for garnish (optional).

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Lager Beer: If you don't have a lager, you can use any light beer or ale. I've even used a wheat beer for a different flavor profile. Feel free to experiment with any kind of beer you like! Cider can also be a great option for a refreshing, fruitier Shandy.
  • Lemonade: No lemonade? No problem! You can make a quick, homemade version with fresh lemon juice, water, and sugar. Alternatively, use a citrus soda like Sprite or 7-Up for a fizzy, slightly sweeter twist.

Making a Pitcher of Shandy:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, you'll need 8 cups of cold lager (approx. 2 liters) and 8 cups of cold Lemonade.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the beer and Lemonade. Stir gently.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into pint glasses, garnish with a lemon wedge, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Beer Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic beer; plenty of good options are on the market.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use this non-alcoholic beer instead of regular beer, follow the original steps, and enjoy your non-alcoholic Shandy.

Making it Vegan:

  • Check Your Beer: Most beers are vegan, but some use animal products in the brewing process. Check the brand's website or a resource like Barnivore to ensure your beer is vegan.
  • Check Your Lemonade: Similarly, ensure your Lemonade is vegan. Some brands use honey as a sweetener, which isn't vegan. If you're making homemade Lemonade, use sugar or a vegan-friendly sweetener.
  • Proceed As Usual: After confirming your vegan ingredients, follow the original steps to enjoy your vegan Shandy.
