Measuring Jigger
Stirrer or Bar Spoon
Prep Glass: Fill your highball glass with ice cubes.
Add Sake: Pour 2 oz Sake over the ice.
Add Soda Water: Measure and pour 4 oz soda water into the glass.
Stir Gently: Use a bar spoon to stir the ingredients gently.
Garnish: Place a lemon slice or twist into the glass for garnish.
Substitutes:
- Sake: If you don't have sake, you can use dry white wine as an alternative. It won't be the same, but it still makes a refreshing drink. I've also tried using shochu for a different but enjoyable twist.
- Soda Water: You can substitute soda water with tonic water for a slightly bitter edge or sparkling water if you prefer a milder taste.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Sake Substitute: Use non-alcoholic sake; these are available and reasonably mimic sake's flavor profile.
- Proceed As Usual: Use this non-alcoholic substitute instead of regular sake, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
- Check Ingredients: Ensure that both your sake and soda water are vegan-friendly. Some sakes may use animal-derived fining agents during production.
- Proceed As Usual: Once you've confirmed your ingredients are vegan, follow the original steps to make your vegan Sake highball.
