Ingredients

  • 1 cup Cola
  • 1 oz grenadine
  • Ice cubes
  • Maraschino cherry - for garnish, optional
  • Lemon or orange slice - for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Highball Glass
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Stirrer or Bar Spoon

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill your highball glass with ice cubes.
  • Add Grenadine: Pour 1 oz grenadine over the ice.
  • Add Cola: Measure and pour 1 cup Cola into the glass.
  • Stir Gently: Use a bar spoon to stir the ingredients gently.
  • Garnish: Drop a maraschino cherry or a slice of lemon or orange into the glass for garnish.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Cola: Root beer makes a decent substitute if you don't have cola. I've tried it, and it adds a unique twist to the drink.
  • Grenadine: No grenadine? You can make a homemade version by reducing pomegranate juice with some sugar. It won't be the same but it'll do in a pinch.

Making a Pitcher of Roy Rogers:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 8 cups of cola and 8 oz of Grenadine.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the cola and Grenadine. Stir well.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled highball glasses, garnish with a maraschino cherry and a slice of lemon or orange, and serve immediately.

Making it Vegan:

  • Maraschino Cherry: Traditional maraschino cherries often use non-vegan coloring or preservatives. Opt for vegan-certified maraschino cherries.
  • Cola: Most mainstream colas are vegan, but checking the label for animal-derived ingredients is always good.
