Ingredients

  • 2 oz Dry Vermouth
  • 1 oz Kirsch - Cherry Brandy
  • ¼ oz raspberry syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • Maraschino cherry - for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Martini or Coupe Glass
  • Mixing Glass
  • Cocktail Strainer
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Stirrer or Bar Spoon

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill a Martini or Coupe glass with ice. Give it a quick stir and set it aside.
  • Add Raspberry Syrup: Pour ¼ oz raspberry syrup into the mixing glass.
  • Add Kirsch: Measure and pour 1 oz Kirsch into the mixing glass as well.
  • Add Dry Vermouth: Add 2 oz Dry Vermouth of your choice.
  • Add Ice and Stir: Fill the mixing glass with ice. Using a bar spoon or a long stirrer, stir well (for about 15-20 seconds). Give it a taste and stir a bit more if you feel like more dilution is necessary.
  • Strain: Take the Coupe or Martini glass and discard the ice inside. Then, use the cocktail strainer to pour the drink into the chilled glass.
  • Garnish: Garnish with a maraschino cherry and serve immediately.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Dry Vermouth: If you don't have dry vermouth, use white wine with bitters. It will be different, but it works in a pinch.
  • Kirsch: I used cherry liqueur instead of Kirsch when I wanted a sweeter profile. You can also try brandy with a dash of cherry extract.
  • Raspberry Syrup: If you're out of raspberry syrup, you can use grenadine or even a bit of raspberry jam dissolved in water.

Making a Pitcher of The Rose Cocktail:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of dry vermouth, 8 oz of Kirsch, and 2 oz of raspberry syrup.
  • Mix: Combine the dry vermouth, Kirsch, and raspberry syrup in a large pitcher with ice and stir well.
  • Serve: Strain the mixture into individual chilled cocktail glasses, garnish with lemon twists, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Dry Vermouth Substitute: To mimic the flavor, use non-alcoholic white wine or grape juice with a splash of bitters.
  • Kirsch Substitute: Opt for cherry juice or cherry-flavored syrup as a non-alcoholic alternative.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
