Substitutes:
- Triple Sec: Any type of orange liqueur, such as curaçao for example, can be used to make this cocktail. For a lighter version, you can use orange peel syrup as a substitute. To make your own syrup, mix together 1 part white sugar and white part water over low heat. Stir well to dissolve the sugar, remove from the heat and add orange peels to the syrup. Let the mixture cool down to temperature, transfer to an airtight container and let it infuse in the fridge for at least one day. When ready to use, strain to remove the peels and store in the fridge after use.
- Cranberry Juice: If you run out of cranberry juice, pomegranate juice also works well. It adds a slightly different but equally festive touch to the cocktail.
- Champagne: Prosecco or any other sparkling wine can be used if you don't have champagne. Just make sure it's chilled!
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Triple Sec Substitute: You can use orange peel syrup as a substitute. For a stronger flavor, you may add a drop of bitter orange essence to the mix. When ready to use, strain to remove the peels and store in the fridge after use.
- Champagne Substitute: Opt for a non-alcoholic sparkling wine, preferably on the drier side.
- Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
The Poinsettia Drink is naturally vegan as it contains no animal products; just ensure that the specific brands of Triple Sec and champagne you're using are certified vegan, and enjoy!
