Our Nutty Irishman recipe offers an easy way to enjoy winter! The comforting blend of Irish cream, Frangelico, and hot Coffee makes it irresistible.
Prep time: 1 minute minute
Mixing time: 1 minute minute
- 1 oz Irish Cream Liqueur
- 1 oz Frangelico
- Hot coffee to top up
- Whipped cream & nutmeg - for garnish, optional
Prep Glass: Warm your Irish coffee glass or mug with hot water, then discard the water.
Add Irish Cream: Pour 1 oz Irish Cream Liqueur into the glass.
Add Frangelico: Measure and pour 1 oz Frangelico into the glass.
Add Coffee: Top up the glass with hot Coffee, leaving room for whipped cream if desired.
Garnish: Dollop a spoonful of whipped cream on top for garnish and add a sprinkle of nutmeg.
Substitutes:
- Irish Cream Liqueur: If you don't have Irish cream liqueur, you can make a homemade version using heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, instant coffee granules, chocolate syrup, vanilla extract, and whiskey. Alternatively, you can use Advocaat, a creamy egg liqueur.
- Frangelico: Amaretto or Disaronno can be used as a substitute for Frangelico. They both have a nutty flavor profile but are made from almonds instead of hazelnuts.
- Coffee: You can use decaf coffee if you're sensitive to caffeine and drinking it in the evening. You could also use a strongly brewed tea like chai or black tea for a different flavor profile.
Making a Pitcher of Nutty Irishman:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 8 oz of Irish cream liqueur, 8 oz of Frangelico, and enough hot Coffee to top up each glass.
- Mix: Combine the Irish cream liqueur and Frangelico in a large pitcher. Stir well and add hot coffee (make sure your pitcher is resistant to hot temperature).
- Pour: Incorporate your drink into pre-heated coffee mugs and garnish all of them with whipped cream and nutmeg.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Irish Cream Liqueur Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic Irish cream syrup; these are available and do a reasonable job mimicking the creamy, sweet flavor of Irish cream liqueur.
- Frangelico Substitute: Opt for a non-alcoholic hazelnut syrup. It won't have the same depth of flavor as Frangelico, but it will provide that essential nutty note.
- Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
- Irish Cream Liqueur: Use a vegan Irish cream such as Baileys Almande, made from almond milk.
- Whipped Cream: Use a dairy-free whipped cream from coconut or plant-based milk. You can also find ready-made vegan whipped creams in most grocery stores.
- Proceed As Usual: Use these vegan substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a vegan version.
