Notes

Substitutes:

  • Mezcal: If you don't have Mezcal, you can use tequila as a substitute. It won't have the same smoky flavor, but it will still work well in this cocktail.
  • Campari: If you prefer something other than Campari's bitterness, Aperol is a good alternative. It's lighter and has a more citrusy flavor.
  • Sweet Vermouth: Dry vermouth can be used instead of sweet vermouth if needed. Just add a small splash of simple syrup to balance out the bitterness.

Making a Pitcher of Mezcal Negroni:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 8 oz of Mezcal, 8 oz of Campari, and 8 oz of sweet vermouth.
  • Mix: Combine the Mezcal, Campari, and sweet vermouth in a large pitcher and stir well.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled Old Fashioned glasses, garnish with an orange slice or twist, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Mezcal Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic mezcal substitute. These are available and do an excellent job of mimicking the smoky flavor of Mezcal.
  • Campari Substitute: Opt for a non-alcoholic aperitif or make a simple syrup infused with orange peel and some bittering agent like gentian or cinchona bark.
  • Vermouth: infuse some grape juice with cinnamon, cardamom, chamomile and coriander..
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

  • Check Your Brands: Some spirit and liqueur brands may use animal products in their production process. Always check with the brand to ensure the product is vegan-friendly.
