This simple Mezcal Coffee recipe will warm you up! It's the perfect fall beverage with Mezcal, cold-brewed coffee, and a touch of sugar.
Prep time: 1 minute minute
Mixing time: 1 minute minute
- 1 oz Mezcal
- 2 oz cold brew coffee
- ½ oz simple syrup
- Ice cubes
Old Fashioned Glass
Measuring Jigger
Stirrer or Bar Spoon
Prep Glass: Fill your Old Fashioned glass with ice cubes and give it a quick stir.
Add sugar: Pour ½ oz simple syrup over the ice.
Pour Mezcal: Measure and pour 1 oz Mezcal into the glass.
Add Cold Brew Coffee: Finally, add 2 oz cold brew coffee to the mix.
Stir & serve: Use a bar spoon to stir the ingredients gently and serve immediately.
Substitutes:
- Mezcal: If you don't have Mezcal on hand, you can use tequila as a substitute. It won't have the same smoky flavor but will still work well with the coffee.
- Cold Brew Coffee: If you don't have cold brew, you can use regular brewed coffee that has been cooled down for a bit. Just remember, it might be stronger and more bitter than cold brew.
- Simple Syrup: If you're out of simple syrup, you can make your own by combining equal parts sugar and water and heating until the sugar dissolves. Alternatively, you can use agave nectar as a natural sweetener (as it pairs really well with the Mezcal). For an extra coffee touch, you can also use coffee liqueur as a sweetener for this drink.
Making a Pitcher of Mezcal Coffee:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 8 oz of Mezcal, 16 oz of cold brew coffee, and 4 oz of simple syrup.
- Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the Mezcal, cold brew coffee, and simple syrup. Stir well.
- Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled Old Fashioned glasses and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Mezcal Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic spirit that has a smoky flavor profile. You can also try making your own substitute by mixing together water, a pinch of smoked salt, a splash of tonic, and a bit of agave syrup (to taste).
- Proceed As Usual: Use this non-alcoholic substitute instead of the Mezcal, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
This Mezcal Coffee drink is naturally vegan as it doesn't contain any animal products. Most spirits, including Mezcal, are vegan-friendly (just be careful not to use a “pechuga” type of mezcal, as this category in particular is not vegan-friendly).
