  • Ice cubes

  • Old Fashioned Glass
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Shaker
  • Strainer & Fine-strainer

  • Add Mint: Place 8-12 fresh mint leaves into a shaker.
  • Add Maple Syrup: Measure and pour ½ oz maple syrup into the shaker.
  • Add Lemon Juice: Add 1 oz fresh lemon juice to the mix.
  • Add Bourbon: Measure and pour 2 oz Bourbon into the shaker.
  • Add Ice: Fill your shaker with ice cubes.
  • Shake: Shake vigorously for about 10-15 seconds.
  • Strain: Fine strain your mix into the old fashioned glass over fresh ice.
  • Garnish: Add a lemon wheel or mint sprig for garnish.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Bourbon: If you don't have bourbon, I've found that rye whiskey works well, offering a spicier kick. For a lighter option, try using brandy.
  • Maple Syrup: Honey can be an alternative if you prefer a different sweetness profile. Agave syrup also works for a more neutral sweetness.
  • Lemon Juice: Lime juice can substitute lemon juice for a slightly different citrus note.

Making a Pitcher of Maple Bourbon Smash:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher serving 8, multiply all ingredients by 8. Use 16 oz of bourbon, 4 oz of maple syrup, and 8 oz of lemon juice.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, gently muddle 64-96 mint leaves, add the bourbon, maple syrup, and lemon juice. Stir well.
  • Serve: Strain the mixture into ice-filled Old Fashioned glasses, garnish with lemon wheels or mint sprigs, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Bourbon Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic whiskey alternative; these mimic the flavor without the alcohol content.
  • Proceed As Usual: Replace bourbon with the non-alcoholic substitute and follow the original steps for a refreshing mocktail version.
