Ingredients

  • ½ oz Gin
  • ½ oz Light Rum
  • ½ oz Vodka
  • ½ oz peach Schnapps
  • ½ oz blue Curaçao
  • ½ oz Cointreau
  • 1 can Red Bull - or other energy drink
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon or Lime wheel - for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Highball Glass
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Stirrer or Bar Spoon

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill your highball glass with ice cubes.
  • Add Spirits: Pour ½ oz Vodka, ½ oz Gin, ½ oz Light Rum, ½ oz peach Schnapps, ½ oz Cointreau, and ½ oz blue Curaçao into the glass.
  • Add Energy Drink: Open 1 can Red Bull and invert it into the glass. The drink will start to mix with the spirits.
  • Stir Gently: Use a bar spoon to mix the ingredients gently.
  • Garnish: Add a lemon or lime wheel for garnish, if desired.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Gin: If gin's not your thing, use tequila for a more robust kick. I've done this and loved the twist it gave.
  • Light Rum: A dark rum can work instead of light rum, adding richer flavors.
  • Vodka: No vodka? Use white rum or even more gin, but remember it'll alter the overall flavor.
  • Peach Schnapps: You can use apricot brandy if you don't have peach schnapps. The drink stays fruity but gains a slightly different tone.
  • Blue Curacao: An orange liqueur can replace this for a color change but with similar citrusy notes.
  • Cointreau: any triple sec will work just fine.

Making a Pitcher of Irish Trash Can:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. Combine them in a large pitcher, but wait to add the Red Bull until serving.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into individual ice-filled highball glasses, invert a Red Bull can into each, garnish, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Substitutes: Use corresponding flavored syrups or non-alcoholic substitutes for each of the spirits. Replace Red Bull with a caffeine-free, fruit-flavored soda.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes and follow the original steps for a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

  • Check Labels: Most spirits are vegan, but always double-check. Also, ensure that your flavored syrups or substitutes are free from animal-derived ingredients.
  • Red Bull: Some people debate whether Red Bull is vegan due to its taurine content. Opt for a verified vegan energy drink if this concerns you.
