Prep Glass: Fill your highball glass with ice cubes.
Add Egg White: If you're using it, add 1 egg white for frothiness.
Add Simple Syrup: Add 1 oz simple syrup to the mix.
Add Lemon Juice: Measure and pour 1 oz fresh lemon juice into the shaker.
Add Gin: Pour 2 oz Gin into the shaker.
Shake Well: Shake the ingredients vigorously for about 15-20 seconds.
Shake with ice: Ice up the shaker and shake again for about the same time.
Strain: Strain the mixture into the highball glass over fresh ice.
Top with Club Soda: Add 1 oz club soda to the glass.
Garnish: Place a lemon zest.
Substitutes:
- Gin: If you're out of Gin, vodka can be a good substitute. It will make the drink less botanical but still delicious. I've also used rum for a tropical twist.
- Lemon Juice: Lime juice works if you're out of lemons. The flavor profile changes, but it's still a great drink.
- Simple Syrup: If you don't have simple syrup, you can dissolve sugar in hot water to make your own. Alternatively, honey or agave syrup can add a unique sweetness.
Making a Pitcher of Gin Fizz:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8, except for the club soda. Add the club soda individually to each glass when serving.
- Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the Gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Stir well.
- Serve: Pour the mixture into individual ice-filled highball glasses, top with club soda, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Gin Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic gin substitute that mimics Gin's botanical flavors quite well.
- Proceed As Usual: Use the non-alcoholic gin substitute and follow the original steps to enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:
- Egg White Substitute: If you're vegan and still want the frothiness, use aquafaba (chickpea water). It works surprisingly well as a frothing agent.
