  • Add Cream: Add 1 oz cream to the shaker.

  • Shake: Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.
  • Strain: Empty your martini glass and fine strain your drink in it.
  • Garnish: Sprinkle grated or ground nutmeg on top for garnish.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Hazelnut Liqueur: If you don't have hazelnut liqueur, try using amaretto for a different nutty flavor.
  • Dark Crème de Cacao: You can substitute with white crème de cacao. For a twist, use a coffee liqueur like Kahlúa.
  • Cream: Milk can be used instead of cream for a lighter version. I've also tried using coconut milk for a unique taste and it works great.

Making a Pitcher of Friar Tuck Cocktail:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 8 oz of hazelnut liqueur, 8 oz of dark crème de cacao liqueur, and 8 oz of cream.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the hazelnut liqueur, dark crème de cacao liqueur, and cream with ice. Stir well.
  • Serve: Strain the mixture into chilled martini glasses, garnish with grated or ground nutmeg, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Hazelnut Liqueur Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic hazelnut syrup; these are available and mimic the flavor nicely.
  • Dark Crème de Cacao Substitute: Opt for chocolate syrup or make a simple syrup infused with cocoa powder for that rich chocolate taste.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

  • Cream Substitute: Use coconut cream or almond milk as a vegan alternative to dairy cream. Both options provide a creamy texture and complement the flavors nicely.
  • Proceed As Usual: Follow the original steps using your chosen vegan cream substitute to create a delicious vegan Friar Tuck Cocktail.
